YIVO’S 2021 SUMMER PROGRAM TAKING PLACE ONLINE
FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 26 GENERAL APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 26
Taking place online for the second year, our six-week intensive program offers peerless instruction in the Yiddish language and an in-depth exploration of the literature and culture of East European Jewry and its diaspora communities. The program features six levels of language study, history and culture seminars, shmues (conversation) classes, a theater workshop, lectures by visiting scholars, a Yiddish song workshop, and more.
*NEW* The Summer Program will be launching a sixth level, Yiddish VI (Yiddish Vov), in summer 2021. A continuation of Yiddish V (Yiddish Hey), the course will be open to graduates of YIVO's advanced level from previous years and will be the most advanced six-week course offered in the history of the Summer Program.
The Weinreich Program treats Yiddish as a living language and emphasizes spoken Yiddish. We hope you will join us via Zoom this summer!
If six weeks isn't enough, we are also offering additional programs to expand your Yiddish learning:
REFRESHER COURSE June 14–18, 2021
Instructor: Dovid Braun | Participants will go over points of the structure and use of Yiddish that merit review or clarification before students embark on their next level of proficiency in the Program's intensive setting. This course is for those with previous Yiddish backgrounds. Class discussion will be conducted in Yiddish.
YIDDISH: THE NEXT LEVEL August 2–13, 2021
Instructors: Miriam Trinh and Eliezer Niborski | A continuing education course for those already teaching, carrying out research, or performing in Yiddish. Sessions will combine elements of a workshop, master class, university seminar, and language lab. Open to participants with considerable Yiddish study in their background and/or who were raised or educated in Yiddish.
