VOLUNTEER WITH YIVO REMOTELY

If you find yourself with some extra time on your hands while self-quarantining, the YIVO Archives has two volunteer opportunities that might be for you. Volunteers are an essential part of the YIVO Archives and we are always grateful for any time you are willing to offer.

If you’re interested in participating in either of the options below, or you’d like to learn more about these opportunities, please reach out to Hallel Yadin at hyadin@yivo.cjh.org.

YOUTH AUTOBIOGRAPHIES FROM THE VILNA PROJECT

We are looking for volunteers to write English summaries of youth autobiographies from the Edward Blank YIVO Vilna Online Collections Project. The autobiographies are in Polish, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Serbo-Croatian. We will also have some opportunities for English speakers to edit summaries, although those will be limited and on a rolling basis.

TRANSCRIPTION

YIVO is in the process of digitizing major portions of our card catalog. We finished digitizing a large section called the Jeshurin bibliography, a 300,000-card bibliography of Yiddish literature. Volunteers who know Yiddish can transcribe the entries so that we ultimately have a searchable bibliography. There are also some sections in Russian.
